Recently “lockdown” was announced as 2020 South African Word of the Year. The word has been mentioned more than 480,000 times since March via online, in print media & broadcast.
Mbula has joined in on the movement. On our various platforms via office, online conferences and media conversations our much talked about top 5 words for 2020 are “futurecoding”, “wearable”, “equitable”, “inclusive” and “REAH-C9”.
We are happy to revealed that our word of the year is "REAHC9". Since the launch of our sign language interpreter #SLI wearable glasses technology we have seen positive dialogue around what the product does & the difference it can make in the hearing and Deaf community.

HOW HAS WORKING FROM ANYWHERE AFFECTED YOU?
It has been over a year since most people took the opportunity of working from anywhere, e.g., home or restaurant. But people have different opinions about working from anywhere, some like it and others do not.
In reality, working from anywhere depends on the support that is required and /or made available for people to perform their work remotely, and so, if it is not managed properly, this may cause challenges instead of creating opportunities.

On the 29th September 2020 the team was proud to officially launch the #REAHC9 interpreter wearable technology.
REAH-C9 is designed to instantly connect the Sign Language interpreter to seamlessly facilitate the communication between the Deaf and hearing persons, thus reducing cost and observing COVID-19 social distance regulations.
We are excited about the launch of our #REAHC9 interpreter wearable technology solution.
REAH aims to contribute towards inclusivity and equitability for a more Digital Deaf community!
1. What does C9 stand for?
The world has entered into a period of the new normal which has brought a set of new challenges that need to be overcome. During Covid-19 this application came to life as means to help the Deaf community, hence we adopted ‘c’ from communication and ‘9’ from 19.
2. Who can use REAH-C9?
REAH-C9 can be use by a Sign Language (SL) Interpreter, Deaf and hearing persons.
3. How does this REAH-C9n solve/bridge the communication gap?
REAH-C9 has intergrated devices and apps. SL Interpreters use REAH Interpreter app to remotely facilate communciation between a hearing person who wears the REAH-C9 wearable glasses and Deaf person.
Thank you to our stakeholders and delegates for sharing this day with us as we build towards a Digital Deaf Community.
